Practice Tools

The links below lead to Google Sheets that randomly generate musical structures for improvisation practice and composition, components of a larger project I’m working on called the Musical Schema Generator ™

HOW TO USE:

Click the links below. Refresh your browser to generate structures. (May not function properly on mobile devices…)

3 & 4-Note Triad Progressions

Produces random progressions comprised of four triads. Three-note triads should include three unique pitches, while four-note triads include one doubling. Begin on the appropriate inversion and string-set, and retain common tones, moving to the closest possible inversion of each chord.

Triads Over Bass Notes

Produces random progressions comprised of four triads over bass notes.

6th & 7th Drop Chord Progressions

Produces random progressions comprised of four 6th or 7th chords. Begin on the appropriate inversion and string-set, and retain common tones, moving to the closest possible inversion of each chord.
